Tignes obtains the Flocon Vert label

The Tignes resort received the Flocon Vert label on 25 November 2022.

Awarded by the Mountain Riders association, the Flocon Vert label recognises efforts made over the course of several years by local areas in domains of sustainable, social and cultural development.

When presenting the trophies, the Mountain Riders highlighted the fact that Tignes is particularly to be lauded for its inclusive approach. The association’s director declared, ‘I’m thinking especially of Snow Pride, and more generally of an LGBT openness that is fully embraced and cultivated’.

Other economic actors also played a role, such as the micro-hydroelectric power station, which generates up to 15% of our electricity needs, and a brand new, state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant.

Receiving the Flocon Vert label is only the first step; efforts must continue.

A certification process

The Flocon Vert is a process of continuous improvement that encourages all stakeholders in a given region to commit to a transition towards sustainable tourism development of mountain areas.

20 criteria assessed

The participating destinations are evaluated within the following four general categories: governance, the local economy, social and cultural dynamics and sustainable resource management.

Committed partners

Many institutional and academic partners and associations support the development of the Flocon Vert.

3 ‘flocon’ levels

When a destination is awarded the Flocon Vert label and embarks on a process of continuous improvement supported by the Flocon Vert system, it is awarded a rating of 1, 2 or 3 snowflakes.

Tignes is building its strategy based on a responsible, year-round tourism offer, the preservation of its natural heritage and the reduction of its carbon impact!

The resort’s recent initiatives:

Transition to HVO biofuel for buses, vehicles, snow groomers and building heating, as well as the acquisition of electric buses and shuttles
Discontinuation of the lighting of the mountains in Tignes
Switching to LED technology for public lighting
An energy consumption reduction plan
